NDR.
I remember during casualty drills on submarines the observers would just step in and say "these three guys are dead" They always chose the most senior guys. Then the rest of the damage control party would have to step up. On a submerged submarine, no one is coming to save you. You do the job in front of you or you die and take the rest of the crew with you.
RIP Steve
brilliant
Thank you. Such a great video. Everyone needs to watch this.
Pneumonic… like pneumonia😂.
God, I hate working around guys like this in the fire service.
Why? Because he’s passionate about being an aggressive firefighter? He’s saying what a lot of “firefighters” don’t want to hear. Be passionate about your work. Hone your craft. Be the firefighter you want to see showing up to your emergency.
Sounds like the fire service isn’t for you, McDonald’s is always hiring
@@jamesnisbet9204 Sick burn, bro. I'm sure I'm not the first person you've heard that from. You know why. Have a nice day.
Wow!! Learned a lot from this video
💯, thank you for that!! It really puts a different perspective on how I work
Thanks a lot! Great talk!
Underrated talk. Awesome job sir.
Thanks for this video!
$100k to return an email. And it’s gone.
I don't think that "zero line of duty deaths advancing a hose on the interior" is a good argument. Maybe in 2017, but it has happened (for example, Colerain Twp., Ohio, 2008) due to various circumstances.
You're the best Andy
Great Talk been there
I show this video to all the new guys and girls I cross paths with.... unfortunately our organisations are teaching newbie's to be footpath firefighters these days, and that's not what is expected of us from the public we serve...
Andy being extremely gracious. firefighters are in no way DEVGRU or white team operators or any SW people
😊👍
Thank you for providing this.
You're welcome. I need to get better at responding to RUclips comments.
@@FIRExTalk There's a LOT of places to respond. Just know that you're doing good work making a platform. Cheers.

Like the good talk mr Terry Meyer
If I sent this to my chief he would ne offended. Because, he's not a good leader
Gold plated alloy with copper inlaid palladium?
Tell me about the toys for the plane is it a golden plated over a nickel or aluminum. I’ve never seen one in real life I don’t looks like it has very calculated weight And I love analyzing the history is precious metals and warfare
Yeah Fuller looking good man!
When you are watching engine educational videos and you hear your name 😱. Great job and thanks for the shout.
My grandfather owned a glass shop and anytime tools or materials were left out his famous line was, "Bud, it only takes a second for an accident to happen.." It was usually followed up with a Stern look and a "learn something new every day." I can't thank him enough for these lessons.... Thank you for posting this 👍👍
Awesome speech Matt! I look forward to hearing you speak more throughout your career!
Wow really reminded me not to be like this guy. Ive met real police, fire,EMS and real military personnel including a seal and a ranger and they had real leadership.First clearly to be a seal you must love your job and do it with leadership what this guy doesn't have and second dont be to quick to judge and point out mistakes and flip it to an opinion what this guy did.question what does military have to do with fire fighting? This guy talking about military and i have not heard anything of fire fighting.
Mmmmmmmm.....I think the title clearly mentions 'Leadership', which can be a tad useful in the fire service....the military.....or even operating a trash company. p.s.-- the best way to learn is often through our mistakes....he's not throwing shade, just taking ego out of the equation....
i think you totally missed the point of his entire talk. i think he was crystal clear about all the relevant points.
I’ll tell you the problem, it’s the idiots with one hand on the phone, the other on his nut sack thinking that because he has 20 years of warming the recliner, that he’s actually a fireman.
Situational awareness. Learn your trigger points and rub it in until you can't handle it and back it out and pull out. Assess the situation and push in again until you reach your threshold. Then train it the same way in your man. Learn to focus and be aware under fire and infect others.
Once again, Andy showing how Honorable, Couragious and Experienced individuals can branch out to all Fields of Leadership.
How could a firefighter not want to serve under Chief Davis?
I really had a good laugh at the thought of exposing a weakness at work! Thank you I enjoyed this.
I was in a class with Mr. Micheal Snodgrass at the National fire academy located in Emmetsburg Maryland, while this guy is always clowning around and having fun, he knows what he is saying, I am an Aircraft rescue Firefighter but I was honored to be in that class with Micheal and in 5 days he thought a lot, so thank you very much, Micheal, for all you have thought me, what an outstanding guy he is
I've lectured at the university level as well as teaching rifle, pistol, emergency medicine, and other related items. I completely agree with your approach to lecturing. The more "visual aids" you use, the less you connect with the target audience. My second point is that I was a professional firefighter (plus having worked in several other public safety fields) as well as having instructed in that field. The leadership I have seen in the fire service was the worse I encountered in all my careers. I sincerely hope my experience was the exception rather than the rule.
I had the chance to meet this young man at a veterans in the fire service event at IFSI in Champaign on 10/11/2020. (My girlfriend was in the Army) For whatever reason he showed up tonight in my news feed. Great guy. I hope to work with him again in the future.
It’s very interesting but is it just me or does Justin look a little like Ben Stiller
Awesome video with some solid points. Everyone in the fire service should watch this atleast once.
Thanks, brother !!
Ed is by far one of the best instructors I have EVER had he is a fireman's fireman and is always knowledgeable and helpful and I'm privileged to be able to learn what he has to teach first hand
Watched this a couple years ago and didn’t know who Andy was then. Funny how it showed up in my feed again. Seriously understated his resume. I’m a former 11B. Have two former seals now in our small department. Some parallels are similar-honestly, leadership is universal-but being in the fire service is like training hard for a war you may or may not fight. You have no idea when it’s going to come, but it could come at any moment. I train hard, and so do the other guys who are like me, mostly because I know we can mitigate the problem faster if we’re fit, well equipped, and highly trained. For the critics, I’m pretty sure that mindset transcends to Navy SEALS and all other SOF units.
Seems unsafe and irresponsible to train like this.

How is it unrelated?
Great presentation Rob!
Honestly if you dont understand this you shouldnt be on the engine and on a search. Good vid for first timers i guess
